There is a story in every person’s life and a need to celebrate and preserve that story with thoughtful and elegant prose. Writing obituaries and eulogies with eloquence and reverence - or with wit and whimsy – is a lost art. Consider using carefully crafted and highly individual memorial prose to honor and celebrate the life of a loved one – or your own!

Paul V. Dimock of Ft. Lauderdale, FL has died at age 84, Dec. 2, 1999. Paul was born and raised in East Smithfield, PA in 1915. He spoke fondly of his upbringing in rural PA as “living in the previous century.” The novelty of electrical lighting in the home led him to pursue an electrical engineering degree at Penn State and a lifelong career with Bell Labs. He left PA rustication for the bright lights of NYC and saw the world as a Navy communications specialist during WWII. He survived the torpedoed sinking of the air craft carrier “The Block Island”, but not the charms of Mary Maag. They married in 1945 and raised five children. His career with Bell Labs was intertwined with America’s space race. He worked on the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions. In 1980 he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL for a well deserved retirement. He spent many pleasurable hours walking the beaches, swimming in the ocean and reading Faulkner, Balzac, Tocqueville and the New Yorker. An urbane gentleman of dry wit and prodigious intellect, he never lost his enjoyment for the unsophisticated pleasures of chicken-fried steak, apple pie or football. Paul had 83 years of splendid health, and one bad one. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Dimock. He is survived by his 5 children, Kathleen Irwin (Englewood, CO), John Dimock (Mpls., MN), Anne Dimock (Afton, MN), Patricia Griffin (Cranberry Twnshp, PA), and Tom Dimock, (Red Bank, NJ). Other survivors include his 5 grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. All will miss him very much. A memorial service will be held Dec. 18th at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 2500 NE 33rd Ave. Ft. Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Telephone Pioneers Fdn, 930 15th St., suite 1200, Denver, CO 80201.
